Herbal Medicine for Appendicitis

Appendix is an elongated, worm like structure situated at the beginning of the colon in the right lower part of the abdomen. Previously it was thought to have no functions in the human body, but now it is believed to help in the immunity of the intestine. As a result, it is more prone to infections-a condition known as appendicitis.

It is a troublesome condition where it becomes a medical emergency most of the time. The infection flares up quickly and tends to develop into a life-threatening situation. There is least or no pharmacological treatment available during an emergency other than to remove the appendix surgically. If not treated in time, it can lead to perforation or even death. Having this in mind, one can rely on herbal remedies for prevention of appendicitis in the long run or when the situation is not so grave.

What causes Appendicitis?

Any particular trigger factor for appendicitis is not known. However, any obstruction like old impacted stool in the intestine may inflame the appendix and the bacteria present there cause an infection subsequently.

Know about its symptoms

In an acute stage, appendicitis generally starts with a sudden cramping type of pain near the umbilicus. Some symptoms like abdominal discomfort, bloating, indigestion, loose motion or constipation may precede the sudden pain. Later the pain is felt gradually towards the right lower side of the abdomen, where the appendix is located. Fever and nausea are the usual associated signs and the patient may vomit for quite a few times. This condition, if remains untreated for long, can cause the appendix burst and spill the bacteria into the abdomen and threatening life. In the chronic appendicitis, the patient suffers from a mild, specific pain recurrently in the right lower side of the abdomen. This is also nausea, loss of appetite and hard stool.
